Consett Energy Saving Week

Information regarding cutting consumers fuel bills and saving energy around the home will be available at a range of places across County Durham in the coming week. The Consett energy saving week seeks to offer the public the chance to check that the deal they’re receiving is as good as they are entitled to, including access to other schemes Consett Energy Saving Weeksuch as Warm Up North. Durham County Council and the Greater Durham Citizens Advice Bureau are working together to provide this information to the public as part of the Big Energy Saving Week, which runs from January 27 to January 31.

The venues in which householders can find out more information vary from day to day, so make sure to make note of the date and venue before going along. Each event will take place between 10am and 2pm.

  • Monday 27 January – Crook Customer Access Point, Crook Civic Centre.
  • Tuesday 28 January – Spennymoor Customer Access Point, Green Lane, Spennymoor.
  • Wednesday 29 January – Seaham Customer Access Point, St John’s Square, Seaham.
  • Thursday 30 January – Stanley Customer Access Point, Front Street, Stanley.
  • Friday 31 January – Durham City Indoor Market.

Methods to reduce overall energy consumption will also be provided at the events, such as; turning off devices rather than leaving them on standby, adding loft/wall insulation to homes, and changing older bulbs for new energy-efficient bulbs. Any of these things is likely to reduce the amount of energy consumed on average due to a reduction in energy wasted by escaping through uninsulated walls, being emitted as heat from older light bulbs, and wasting energy by leaving unnecessary devices running overnight or while out of the house. It is hoped that the events at Consett energy saving week will encourage consumers to make use of their ability to save energy wherever possible.
