There has been a start in work to improve Consett Town Centre in time for Christmas 2012.

Work being undertaken includes the improvement part of the Albert Road car park to the rear of Britannia bank in Middle Street.

Consett Town Centre - Middle CartThis work is being carried out in the pedestrian alleyway next to D. Gees Sports Store will include landscaping and new litter bins. There are also new railings being added and existing railing being painted near to Wetherspoons at the crossroads between Medomsley Road, Station Road, Front Street and Sherburn terrace.

Wendy Benson, the council’s community economic development manager, said: “These improvements are linked to the wider developments planned across the town centre that make up the Consett Masterplan.
