This weekend looks to be a cold one with snowfall being predicted across the country. With very little snow over the Christmas and New Year period it now seems that JanuarySnow expected to hit Consett soon. will be filled with the white stuff as a cold weather front will be coming down across the east of the UK over Saturday and Sunday. Heavy snowfall will likely disrupt transport links and road networks in the region and gritters will be out in force to try and limit the disruption to the best of their ability. Maybe the snow will be a welcome arrival for some after the previous month of torrid weather.

Heavy rainfall has blanketed the country over December and so far in January with many locations across the UK suffering from the damage caused by flooding. December 2012 was recorded as the 2nd wettest December since records began and January has so far brought very little relief. As temperatures have started to drop everyone in the local area are preparing for the worst. It may be a good idea to get yourself a snow shovel if you didn’t pick one up at the end of the last year.

Driving in snowy conditions can prove to be treacherous and you should take care if you need to travel over the weekend. Even though we up north have a fair bit of experience when it comes to adverse weather many people get caught out by the lack of grip regular tyres provide on the slippery surface. It’s best to stay off the roads if you can but that isn’t an option for many of us who have commitments which must be upheld. So as we wait on baited breath for the first snowflakes to fall remember that although beautiful, snow can be an absolute nightmare. Make sure to stay safe on the roads when out and about this weekend.
