The Village of Shotley Bridge is being asked how a grant of £125,000 could be used to improve the historic Derwentside village. The money is coming from Durham County Shotley Bridge Gains £125,000Council from the money which will be made available from Storey Homes and their building activities on the site of the old Shotley Bridge Hospital. On September 10th from 3pm until 7pm at the King’s Head Social Club you can have your say on how the money will be spent.

The money has been set aside with the intention of being spent on making the community a better place to live, work and visit. This is a great sum of money which the residents of the village will be extremely pleased to hear is being invested in the village. At the event on the 10th of September there will be 5 projects outlined and explained to give you a better idea of how the money should be spent. £125,000 is a large sum of money which will be able to do many things to help improve Shotley Bridge for the residents and visitors for some time to come.

Whilst this is a great opportunity for the village there are some people from other areas of Derwentside who are questioning the reasoning of investing £125,000 in the attractive and up-market area of Shotley Bridge. In comparison, the Derwent Valley Area Action Partnership is only able to split a £40,000 pot between deserving community groups in Consett. This is significantly less than that the money which will be invested in Shotley Bridge.

Whichever way this £125,000 is spent it will definitely be beneficial to the area. If you live or work in Shotley Bridge then make sure you attend the event at the King’s Head on the 10th of September to have your say in how this funding should be allocated.

  1. The money from building houses in Shotley is going to stay in Shotley Bridge and that is good because i have lived here all of my entire life on this planet in shotley bridge and we could do with a new leisure facility of some kind. i would love to see some of the local footpaths and walking areas made a little bit better so older people can have better access to enjoying the shotley bridge green areas.

  2. Some money should be spent on creating a parking facility so that existing business could thrive and new amenities could succeed.
