Punk Up For Charity

Hairdressing students are helping people punk up for charity – in memory of Lee Robson, the charity worker who died a day before he was due to be wed. The students have volunteered to turn people into punks for the event, Bright Red.

The Bright Red event will take place at the Demi, Consett on Saturday 22nd March. This is in memory of Lee Robson, father-of-two who died of leukaemia the day before his marriage commitment to Sue Smith.

Chief executive of the YMCA, Billy Robson – also Lees dad – will have his hair styled into a Mohican (red of course) by sixth form students from Stanley’s North Durham Academy.

Heather Ferguson, hairdressing tutor at the academy’s Symmetric Beauty Salon said Billy’s story was very inspirational and was moved by it. When he told her about the even she was more than happy to help out the event and doing all of the hair and make-up of the others that are involved in the night.

Billy Robson, said the event was arranged by Kevin Blackwood, who his son, Lee, knew very well. His friend Billy Glynn has already donated £100 to him and offered to donate another £100 to him if he can punk up for charity. The event if from 6pm till late and features bands Toxic, from the gut and Sex generals. The event will also host a raffle and an auction.

All proceeds, including money paid to the students for all of their hard work on the night will go to the blood cancer, Bright red because it was Lee Robson’s grant to help patients pay for parking and other costs during hospital visits.

Tickets are £4.00 from 01207 502 680 or Mr Blackwood on 07769296881 or can also be purchased at the door on the night.

So go along, show your support and punk up for charity.
