A young charity volunteer for Consett YMCA has won an award

A young charity volunteer for Consett YMCA – that was unable to attend the awards ceremony – was presented with High Sheriff’s Shrievalty Award.

Joe Rowell – an 18 year old young lad from Consett – was nominated for the award by staff at Consett YMCA for his dedication to youth services and activities.

Consett YMCAMr Rowell was attending a funeral whilst the award was being given at Durham Castle last week. So to show their appreciation towards Joe, Consett YMCA held a special presentation of their own in Parliament Street, Consett on Tuesday, April 1.

Consett YMCA Chief Executive, Billy Robson stated that Mr Rowell had made consistent presence at the YM, helping out since he was a young one too, 15.

He also said that Joe is always happy and cheerful, joins inn all activities to ensure the youngsters have a fun time whilst they are there.

Joe volunteers to do activities with young people who attend the Alternative Education Provision group, to ensure that each young person that takes part is given the time and support they need to encourage them. He is forever putting people first both at Consett YMCA and other places surrounding before even thinking about himself.

Lets hope Joe’s support and encouragement gets the younger ones to where they need to be in the future.
