Durham easter egg run revived by enthusiastic Hartlepool biker.

The easter egg run involves hundreds of local bikers riding, in association with the police, between hospitals in both Durham and Darlington to deliver easter eggs to children in hospital. It has been running since 2005 but was unfortunately cancelled this year due to cuts in the Durham Constabulary motorcycle unit – Hartlepool biker, Tony Hudspith, decided to manage the event and make it go ahead regardless of cuts with the police.

Tesco at Dragonville, Durham, have confirmed that their site is to be used as the start point for the egg run, after which the bikers will visit the University Hospital of North Durham and the Darlington Memorial Hospital. Any Durham-Easter-Egg-Runbikers looking to attend should meet on 20 April at the Tesco branch at around 10am, with plans to start 30 minutes later – visit the Facebook event page to register your interest in taking part, over 175 people have already agreed to attend.

Aside from organising the Durham easter egg run 2014, Mr Hudspith also volunteers with the Bloodrun service and acts as a rider to transport emergency blood supplies across the north east. The charity have confirmed that they will have some presence at the Durham easter egg run to show their support.

Durham police are aware of the intentions to continue with the event and have advised Mr Hudspith to discuss potential issues and travel considerations with traffic managers. Speaking on the Facebook event page, Hudspith said: “as there seems to be a lot of bikers turning up. I will take their much valued advice and update everyone soon.”
