Consett’s farm shop and bakery win a high quality award

Knitsley Farm shop and Sweethart’s Bakery have both been awarded the top award of Highest Quality Assured and Local Produce Champion by the accreditation organisation.

Work_doughThe farm shop and bakery were among 60 businesses across the UK presented with the award. The award was in recognition of comfort, quality of food, consistency, good service and championing local produce.

Since Knitsley Farm Shop and Granary Café opened six years agoit has been with the Taste Durham Scheme.

It was opened in 2008 by husband and wife, Edward and Rachael Jewson. When the business first started out it had only five members of staff, however after continuing to grow over the past five years it now has a total of 47 full time and part time employees.

Rachael Jewson commented on how the farm focuses on only producing and processing quality meats which are sold in the shop – as well as locally sourced meats.

All products meet the standards and are as locally as possible to stock up the shop. All home-made products are prepared and served in the Granary Café – located on the farm site.

As well as enjoying the comfort of indoors, customers can also enjoy the views and freshness of the courtyard dining area.

Sweethart’s Bakery was opened by Mark hart around 20 months ago after he recently gave up his trade as a builder after a back injury. Mark provided a range of hot and cold food, served daily, produced in store. 38 year old Mark said he wowed the judges by the preparation and baking of the products inside the bakery.

He is also constantly trying to keep the standards up and making the shop a type of place what people would be attracted to. He adds that he thinks people appreciate that all products are made on the premises even if the sandwiches start off as flour.

Both the farm shop and bakery have fantastic food products in my personal experience.
