A Marie Curie stall set up in the foyer of the Consett Matalan branch was a huge success over the weekend.

The stall was staffed by volunteers on bank holiday Saturday (24 May) and raised a total of £195 across the day, in addition to raising money for the charity group volunteers were also sharing information about Marie Curie Cancer Care, providing guides to customers about setting up their own Blooming Great Tea Party, and promoting the
upcoming national Walk Ten events which are planned to take place across the UK.

Chair of the Consett and Stanley Marie Curie fundraising group, Mark Athey, had this to say:

“£195 raised is a great way to launch the new group.  Thanks to everyone who helped and donated.”

The Consett and Stanley group was only recently formed, this success hopefully marks the beginning of many more successful charity and fundraising events across the region. A local Walk Ten challenge is taking place at Gibside on 19 July, there’s still time to get involved and contribute to fundraising – if you could like more information about the Walk Ten challenge visit this page on the charity’s website.Marie Curie

Further events are already planned to take place in Consett in the upcoming months, including a Blooming Great Tea Party on 26 July, a special Mad Hatter theme should capture the imagination of passing customers and the volunteers alike – Matalan staff will be aidin Marie Curie with the event.

Marie Curie is one of the charities supported by the Consett branch of Matalan – the store manager and the charity organisers have arranged for a number of additional fundraising events to be held in the foyer of the branch on some weekends throughout the year.
