The third Durham Dash is taking place on Wednesday 4th June this year, hundreds of youngsters expected to take part.

2014 sees the third annual Change 4 Life Durham Dash, with over 600 youngsters from dozens of schools around the area taking part on 4th June. Spectators are advised to turn up at the Market Place in Durham from 5pm for all pre-event activities. Commentary and entertainment will be provided by ‘Sibbers’ of Smooth Radio.

Registration for competitors begins from 4:30pm and the first heat begins at 5:30pm with the Year 3 Girls, followed Durham Dashby Year 3 Boys, Year 4 Girls etc. every 10 minutes until 6:40pm. Then competitors will parade around Palace Green before the road race finals at 7:15pm and the end of the evening with the presentation ceremony at 8pm.

The Durham Dash is being organised and presented by Durham City School Sport Partnership with support from Durham County Council – youngsters involved will have the rare opportunity to move throughout Durham City’s world heritage site, setting off from Market Place and heading through the cobbles of Owengate towards the Palace Green onwards to the finishing line.

Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for safer and healthier communities, Councillor Lucy Hovvels,  said:

“Hopefully, with events such as the Durham Dash as well as other local and national Change4Life initiatives, families across County Durham will be able to find lots of ways to help them move more and eat well.”

Change 4 Life is a service set up to provide help for people to “eat well, more more and live longer”. The initiative works closely with charities, businesses, local communities, NHS, the Government, and most importantly families.
