Nigel Cook, aged 44 is the Managing Director of Eldiss Transport in Consett,
Co. Durham. He has been an active trustee of Willow Burn Hospice since
January 2009 and his company began supporting Willow Burn in July 2007
with their trucking4willowburn project which now plays an active part in raising
awareness of Willow Burn by advertising on selected haulage Vehicles which
travel the country.

Since it’s inception they have raised over £60,000 through sponsorship and fundraising efforts by the staff.

In January 2011 Nigel decided to fundraise to help towards the building of a
new hospice. His aim was to run 10 half marathons in 10 different countries
with an aim to raise £10,000. His marathon journey started in August of that
year at Ramsey, Isle of Man and finished in April 2012 in Prague, Czech
Republic. He actually ended up raising and incredible £23,000 running in
places like Morocco and also inside the Arctic Circle in Norway.

In 2012 Nigel was nominated by his wife Victoria to take part in the Olympic torch bearing relay.

 

On 16th June Nigel ran his leg of the relay supported by friends, family and
many other well wishers who lined the streets of Consett. The Blackhill
Bounders ( Nigel’s running club also proudly ran behind the procession
wearing their black and red running attire. Nigel commented afterwards,
‘Bearing the Olympic Torch is one of the proudest moments of my life, an
amazing day and one that I will never forget’.

 
He is a very successful business man, bringing wealth and jobs to our local
economy. He is a truly inspirational character and leader who has given so
much to Willow Burn Hospice both in terms of his fundraising efforts and as a
valued member of the Board of Trustees.

 
To acknowledge his outstanding efforts Nigel was asked to speak to The
Rotary Club of Consett about his charity work accompanied by his wife
Victoria his brother Jeff and sister- in – law Pam.

 
Here he was presented with the Rotary Club of Consett’s Community Award
for his his unyielding efforts to support his community and the people of
Consett.
