The fresh-washed charm of this stream
Is a girl in her first dress in spring,
Free to sway and laugh and sing:
Her first dance after the ice-regime.

She’s cast off dowdy winter coat;
Across the bridge light breezes bless
Each wavelet with a gem-crest caress,
In flowing robes that seem to float.

Enhancing now her pure clean face,
A tiny galaxy of stars a-twinkle,
Coruscating in myriad sparkle:
The river’s scintillating dancing necklace –
Sun begifts his running daughter
With diamonds of the first water.
