This coming weekend there will a free talk to remember the history of the North East of England’s paper-making industry. Catherine Wright will be there to cover the history of the Annandale family, who operated paper mills in Shotley Grove and Lintzford near Rowlands Gill back in the 19th Century.

The very first paper mill in the region was in Croxdale and it was set up around the 1670s, the paper making industry continued in one form or another until the 1980s.

Mrs Wright has been investigating her own family links to the industry after discovering that her husband was a direct descendant of per miller founder John Annandale.

Held by Durham County Local History Society the event will take place in the City Theatre in Fowler’s Yard, Back Silver Street, in Durham City May 14 Saturday at 14.30.
