Consett Air Cadets

Our local Air Cadet organisation, the 1409 (Consett) Squadron, based at their brand-new modern Parliament Street Headquarters, is recruiting for young people, male and female, who wish to join. The ATC is a dynamic youth organisation that offers great opportunities for exciting fun and personal development. The age requirements are that young people must be over the age of 12yrs and under their 18th birthday to join.

The Air Training Corps was originally established in 1941, when the Country was fighting for its survival and the Royal Air Force was the cornerstone of our defence. As it still is to this day. The original aim was to train young people in a number of skills areas and to imbue them with a sense of discipline that would aid their development and prove exceptionally useful in later life. The ATC was able to train people in preparation for the flying services including the RAF and the Fleet Air Arm, the aircraft carrier born flying branch of the Royal Navy.

The Air Training Corps 1409 (Consett) Squadron was established just two months later, during 1941, and is still proudly offering excellent opportunities to Derwentside youngsters during their 75 Anniversary year.

However, the Air Cadets are firmly a 21st Century, broadly based and more dynamic, Youth Training Organization that still has very strong links with the RAF and flying. For young people thinking about whether to join the Air Cadets and looking for excitement and with an eye on a career in the flying branches of the Military the Air Cadets is made to measure.
