Dear Consett Magazine Readers. It’s February 2017 already, can you believe it?

This month our front cover features an amazing shot of the Consett theodolite from Hippy Nixon Photography (check out his Facebook page: facebook.com

In this month’s articles, Local historian Brian Harrison looks to The Boldon Book to find historical accounts of the nearby hamlet of Edmundbyers from way back in 1183. And Lorraine Weightman takes another trip down memory lane with a nostalgic look at Theatre in her February 2017 piece, “Oh Yes It Is”.

Take a quick look to page 11 and you’ll see we’re introducing a new video series by local YouTuber, Steven ‘Monkey’ Mason, this will be available on consettmagazine.com and via the usual social media channels every Sunday. It’s also on page 11 that you’ll find a poem called ‘The Consett Monster’ sent in to us by the anonymous local poet.
Remember, if you’d like to get involved with the magazine you can email us on editor@consettmagazine.com, message us on Facebook just search: “Consett Magazine” or visit consettmagazine.com for more info.

Back in January we held a Facebook Competition where we asked members of the community to nominate and vote for their chosen local business by liking, sharing, and tagging them in a Facebook post. The winner of the competition is “Mr. Mixologist” — You’ll see more from Dan Bowes from Mr.Mixologist in the next edition of the magazine. So we wish huge congratulations to Mr.Mixologist and all the best in 2017 to all the people and businesses that entered the competition.

Best wishes,
Barry Kirkham,
Marco Elsy
And The Consett Magazine Team
