Beamish museum has unveiled a timetable of fun activities that will run throughout late July and August.

The Summer of Fun programme will see regular events and workshops taking place until August 30th.

Modelling Mondays – from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm – will be a chance to get creative with Edwardian arts and crafts while Tales on Tuesdays will feature traditional songs and stories.

On Workhouse Wednesdays, kids will have the chance to try on Edwardian clothes, sample traditional gruel and have a go at workhouse chores such as cleaning and unpicking ropes. The Workhouse Wednesdays activities will take place at 11 am, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.

Try it Thursdays will involve pastimes that were popular from Georgian times to the 1950s, as well as footballing activities organised by the Newcastle United Foundation.

On Falconry Fridays, you can handle birds of prey and see horse drawn vehicles, pit ponies and pack horses.

On Fridays, you can also meet Beamish’s farmer and have a tour of his farm. On this tour, you can make the acquaintance of Molly the famous pig and meet ducks, geese, chickens and a very special lamb.

Science Saturdays will include explosive demonstrations and workshops on how to write secret wartime messages.

Sewing Sundays will involve sewing and quilt making, as well as the chance to learn about the life of a certain Joe the Quilter.

The Remaking Beamish engagement development officer, Matthew Henderson, said, “Our Summer of Fun looks to be our biggest and best yet, an amazing opportunity for all the family to get hands-on with history.”

“Whether you are eight-years-old, or 80-years-old, there will be something you can get involved with.”

“Every day will see something different taking place across the museum. Come along and make some family memories – we’ll try our best to organise some sunshine!”
