Eighties and Nineties chart toppers Deacon Blue are set to play a gig at Newcastle Racecourse this summer.

The Glasgow band – famous for hits like Real Gone Kid and Fergus Sings the Blues – will play a concert to round off a day of racing on Friday 29th June.

Deacon Blue – currently celebrating 30 years in the music business – will play Newcastle Racecourse as part of their To Be Here Someday Tour. The tour’s name is based on a line from the band’s single Dignity, a song that encapsulates the group’s passion and joy at being able to share their music with their fans.

The tour will see Deacon Blue playing some of their largest ever shows. They will play London’s iconic Hammersmith Odeon, as well as arena gigs in Liverpool, Aberdeen and – as an electrifying finale to the tour – their hometown of Glasgow.

In the 1980s and early nineties the band – with their energetic pop-rock and distinctive male/female lead vocals – were regularly in the charts and a frequent fixture on shows like Top of the Pops.

The band have, however, had something of a renaissance of late. Deacon Blue have put out three new albums in recent years, with their 2016 album Believers their highest-charting record in 23 years.

In their career, Deacon Blue have sold around six million albums worldwide and had 12 top forty singles and two number one albums in the UK. The group performed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Glasgow.

As has become typical for the band, their setlist on the To Be Here Someday Tour will change from night-to-night, but fans can be sure that all the concerts will be stuffed with classic Deacon Blue tunes.

The tickets for the show at Newcastle Racecourse – which include a full day at the races – can be purchased at http://www.vmstickets.co.uk/.  Prices start at £29.00.
