County Durham residents could have the chance of winning an iPad – if they sign up to receive their council tax bills online.

Anybody who signs up for digital council tax bills between Friday 1st June and Tuesday 31st July will be entered in a prize draw for the device, which has been donated to the council.

Receiving your council tax bills online gives you the advantage of being able to check them at a moment’s notice. Paying bills online also helps the environment, as there is no need to use paper for the letter and envelope or fossil fuels to deliver the bill.

Durham County Council’s cabinet member for social inclusion and HR, Cllr Jane Brown, said, “We are always looking for easy ways for people to access our services, receive their bills electronically and view their council tax bills and payment history online.”

“As well as being more convenient and efficient, it helps the environment too.”

“Signing up to this system is easy and records are available 24/7, enabling people to use the system to inform us of any changes of circumstances in the future.”

“With the chance to win an iPad, there’s never been a better time to sign up.”

The campaign to encourage online council tax payment – together with the council’s Do It Online initiative – aims to provide ease of access to anyone, anywhere at any time.

The Do It Online project allows people to create a customised account that suits the way they use Durham County Council services.

Paying bills online is becoming more popular. A 2017 study showed that over half of Americans pay their bills online, with around 60% of millennials and members of Generation X choosing this method of payment.
