North West Durham Member of Parliament Richard Holden has backed local exporter Fuzzy Brush in Consett and discussed their global export ambitions for the future.

Fuzzy Brush produce chewable sugar-free “sweets” that dissolve and help sustain dental health in differing flavours including Spearmint, Grapefruit and Chocolate. The business, based in Consett’s Number One Industrial Estate, has experienced soaring demand for its revolutionary product and has received national press coverage as well as rising interest in its crystalline-textured produce which has a growing domestic market and is particularly popular in Singapore, South Korea and Japan.

Commenting Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham said:

“It was brilliant to meet the team at Fuzzy Brush who I first met when they came to my recent Jobs Fair at Derwentside College keen to recruit to their growing team. They have an exciting new product that is like magic to use – it tastes sweet but is great for your teeth!

“When I visited their processing site they showed me the high-tech machinery they are using and explained they need to make significant capital investment in order to keep up with demand. However, what was most evident was that they had a highly-motivated team that worked closely together and really believed in the value of what they were doing. It was a pleasure to meet them all.”

Commenting Fuzzy Brush Director, Carol Perkins said:

“It was great of Richard to take the time to visit us at our site in Consett where we develop our product and to show him how it’s made. It is clear Richard is getting out and about and meeting local businesses, showing a genuine interest in the opportunities and challenges they face. We also were delighted to attend his recent Job Fair at Derwentside College and look forward to working with him in the future”.
