Richard Holden MP is excited to announce the winning entry of his competition for schoolchildren in his North West Durham constituency.

To celebrate Her Majesty’s historic reign, children of primary school age were invited to design and submit a winning card for Mr Holden to send to the Queen on behalf of everyone in North West Durham. After looking through around 400 brilliant and original submissions, Richard picked Year 3’s George for his card, which had a mix of Jubilee and County Durham drawings, and was filled with colour.

Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after an incredible 70 years of service.

The design was to include things we associate with Her Majesty and to reflect her Platinum Jubilee year. Richard also stipulated that it would be great if something from County Durham could make the design, too. George did all this, and more.

Richard Holden MP comments on George’s winning entry:

“In the photos you can see George’s fantastic design. There were so many really excellent ideas to choose from and it was really tough. Thank you to the hundreds of young people who took part from across North West Durham.

“I’ll be delivering George’s card to Buckingham Palace next week. You can see how shocked the lovely lad was that his design won and how proud his mam is who dropped by! The whole class were really proud of him and gave a huge round of applause. Huge congratulations to George and very well done.”

“I hope everyone has a truly great Jubilee (extended) weekend in honour of our Queen who has served with such dignity through all these transformative year.”
