After seven years of growing in Consett, Blackhill Club Community Garden is welcoming a major change.

Focused around growing edible and beneficial plants on previously unused land, the garden is a productive and social space that uses natural systems based on Permacultureā„¢ design and “no dig” methods, made with local community elbow grease.

After the original founding organisation, The ALT Group have had to adapt post covid they have decided to end the community interest company and transfer the management of these spaces into new hands.

Love School is a new online space that provides a range of courses by experts who share their knowledge and skills in natural, holistic health and wellbeing. As part of the school space Blackhill Club Community Garden and Fanny Bush Forest Garden in Chopwell have been taken over by Love School Green Space!

Green Spaces is a new online community sharing content celebrating nature, growing food, green issues and self sustainability skills. As part of their ethos of sharing knowledge and skills for everyday health and well being improvements, Green Spaces is now launching a series of online courses using the growing spaces.

The first series is called Back to Basics sharing, simple to follow, low cost courses with guidance, knowledge and skills. Courses include subjects from growing food, to cooking at home, using herbs, natural garden design and more.

The online community and courses are accessible to anyone and sales support the development and maintenance of these real world garden spaces. Members of the community are invited to join live events or social activities in the gardens and learn first hand through regular sessions or specialist workshops.

Love School host & space designer Terri Lee-shield says ā€œI am delighted we have been able to continue the good work done by our community and continue the development of these garden spaces. This new way of sharing knowledge makes the learning accessible to everyone and allows us to fund the projects that might otherwise be overlooked through other funding avenues. It is a great community focused solution we are really pleased to be part of.ā€

Love School Green Spaces opens in September for members with Back to Basic courses also available. Visit www.loveschool.uk/green to join our community and find out more.
