From an Edwardian Engager to a fish fryer, a range of unique roles are being advertised at the award-winning County Durham museum, including in The 1900s Town, new 1950s Town and Food Team.

Susan Birss, HR Assistant at Beamish Museum, said: “Beamish is such an exciting and unique place to work, where else can you work in a 1900s Town or Pit Village or create treats for thousands of visitors from all over the world?

“Applicants should be enthusiastic, energetic, have a willingness to learn and able to demonstrate their commitment to outstanding visitor engagement. For more information and to apply, visit Beamish’s website.”

The seasonal jobs will include Beamish Museum’s busy festive period when the museum tells the story of Christmas in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. The successful candidates will help make Christmas extra special for museum visitors from across the North East and beyond.

Set across 350 acres, there’s a job to suit everyone at Beamish. Whether you’re a dab hand at making dab and chips, you love to learn, enjoy engaging with people or you just want to try something new, you’re sure to find a role at the museum to suit you.

Discover how Beamish delivers its world-class, immersive experience, and become part of the friendly team of staff and volunteers that keeps visitors coming back time and time again.

Ian Bean, a 1900s Town Beamish Engager, said:

“From being on the terrace to serving on the retail stalls or working inside the Co-op or in the photographers’ or chemist’s, there’s a huge variety of things you can do at Beamish.

“I really enjoy working in all the exhibits as they all have their own different attractions. You get to meet a lot of interesting people. People are given full training, there are manuals for every exhibit and lots of experienced staff who will be there to guide you.

“The reward of seeing the smiles on people’s faces in very worthwhile. It’s really nice to be able to talk to anybody and everybody, and just share Beamish with them.”

As well as an exciting and varied role, museum benefits include a Beamish pass (allows free entry for the employee and three other people), 20 per cent discount on catering and retail, contributory pension scheme and free parking.

Beamish is a world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s.
