After Richard Holden MP’s immensely popular North West Durham Coronation Card Competition, the fortunate winner received a response directly from Buckingham Palace.

Apart from receiving prizes from Richard, all the winners and runners-up were rewarded. However, the most coveted prize was bestowed upon 8-year-old Jake Macnamee from St. Patrick’s RC, Consett. His entry was sent to the HM King at Buckingham Palace, representing the collective congratulations of everyone in North West Durham on the occasion of His Majesty’s Coronation.

In a time where divisions are all too common, the Coronation was a great opportunity for everyone to come together for a national celebration. While it was a wet and windy weekend, North West Durham’s spirits were not to be dampened by the rain, and this has been nicely repaid. We thought it was all said and done but this latest development caps off a truly magical celebration.

Richard popped into St Patrick’s RC to present Jake with the letter, and the special card from Buckingham Palace. Everyone was absolutely delighted! It’s not every day you hear from The King!

“I was astounded to open my mail and get a letter from The King. My popular coronation card competition was entered by children from every corner of North West Durham. So, while this thank you from Buckingham Palace is addressed to Jake, it is really an award for every single child who entered.

“The street parties and celebrations for the Coronation, not only in our towns and villages, but right across the country were something special. I am not surprised but this recognition from The King is what the Coronation is all about.

“I am honoured to help play a small part in making the Coronation magical for Jake. Charles has got off to a flyer for us already, so look forward to what the remainder of his reign has in store for us in North West Durham. Hopefully, he will come and see our towns and villages for himself soon!”
