As the end of the year draws ever-closer, that can only mean one thing… it’s panto time! Oh yes it is! Newly established local company Paved With Gold Productions is bringing its family pantomime – Dick Whittington and his Cat – to St Patrick’s Hall in Consett this November and December.
The company’s founder, Matthew Lowe, set up the project earlier in the year, having spent many years writing, directing and performing in local pantomimes. “We’ve learned so much about pantomimes over the years and feel like we’re in a position to put on a really good quality show,” he says of himself and fellow performers. “Our first production [Dick Whittington] is full of all the fun, mayhem and audience participation that we know all panto-goers love.” Tickets are priced at just £9 each and every fourth ticket is free.
With the current cost of living crisis, many families cannot afford to go and see pantomimes, so Paved With Gold is happy to be offering a budget-friendly alternative to those being shown at larger venues and is certain audiences will not be disappointed – Dick Whittington and his Cat has the local charm from local performers with many years of performing experience. Don’t miss it!
Dick has made his way to Consett, where the streets are paved with gold… so he’s been told! Unfortunately, Consett has been plagued by an evil gang of rodents, led by the greedy, thieving King Rat! Fortunately, life isn’t all bad for Dick: he’s got himself a job and some new friends at the shop of the late Alderman Fitzwarren’s widow and a rather curious cat to keep him company and help him on his quest.
Can Dick defeat the evil King Rat and become a local hero?
Will he manage to persuade the late Alderman’s daughter, Alice, that he is brave and heroic?
Will Idle Jack EVER do any work?
