The Consett Eagles Rugby League Club has truly hit the ground running as they launched into their second season this past April. With teams ranging from under-5s to under-16s, the club has seen a fantastic doubling in its numbers, with the primary age groups showing the most enthusiasm.

Determined to keep rugby league accessible, the Eagles offer free training.

In times like these, when budgets are tight for many, this approach is a lifeline for families wanting to keep their kids active and engaged. This commendable effort is supported by generous local sponsors and some very spirited fundraising activities.

A highlight of the season’s start was the collaboration with Newcastle College. Back in April, design students presented their fresh ideas for the club’s new crest, and the winning design has been proudly adopted as the symbol of the club moving forward.

It’s all hands on deck at the Eagles, with a dedicated team of volunteers—from the coaches to myself, the president—everyone pitches in. The sense of community here is palpable, and as we look to the rest of the season, it’s clear the excitement is just building.
