Dear Consett Readers
Welcome to another exciting issue of the Consett Magazine (Issue No. 141)! This August, we delve into the heart of what makes Consett such a vibrant place – its remarkable people and institutions.
This month, we shine a light on Delta School, a haven for students who learn differently. Through a supportive environment and focus on individual needs, Delta empowers students to reach their full potential. Their dedication extends beyond academics, fostering well-being and equipping students with essential life skills.
Joyce Shaw’s humorous tale, “The Zealous Traffic Warden,” brings a smile and reminds us of the quirky characters that add charm to our community. We also meet Lisa Delarny, a gifted artist offering pottery classes in her new High Westwood studio.
A cornerstone of Consett, the Castleside Village Hall is turning 100 this October! We celebrate their history and ongoing commitment to bringing people together. From hosting weddings and christenings to offering classes and markets, the hall embodies the spirit of the Castleside community.
Consett Magazine is always proud to showcase local businesses who contribute to our town’s economy and provide services and products we all love and need. Knitsley Farm Shop boasts a skilled butchery team, while Classic Retro Autos caters to the nostalgia of classic car enthusiasts. Also in collaboration with Consett in Focus we explore the fascinating restoration of the Christ Church Tower Clock.
This month, let us also remember the sacrifices of the heroes through the wartime experiences of Arthur Agar, a young wagon driver during the D-day invasion. Lookingwe celebrate the achievements of Sam Cook, a Medomsley native turned award-winning photographer who captures the essence of his surroundings, from Consett to the Sunshine Coast.
