Durham County Council Funds Creative Project Showcasing Consett with Local Veterans
NEW Consett bus shelters

The project – ‘Aboard the Journey’ is led by Artist, Claire Ford and was developed after conversations with Veterans.

The ‘Aboard the Journey’, mental health campaign will take place week beginning the 17th of March for 2 weeks and will be presented in 9 bus shelters across Consett. These specific bus shelters have been chosen due to high foot fall and visibility for both bus users and walkers. The bus shelter artworks were designed by Artist Claire Ford and Graphic Designer, Becky Davison, bringing together the veterans’ outcomes of positive affirmations, photography and creative writing.

Local mental health services will also be made known at the bottom of the bus shelters to educate the community to what is available locally. It is well known that Veterans can have poor mental health after service and therefore this campaign not only helps the veterans whilst engaging in such a creative project but by helping others in Consett, to know that they are not alone and to give them information on where they can get support.

Each of the 9 bus shelters highlights a letter and when put together spells – ‘My Consett’.

Keep an eye out for them when you’re travelling around Consett and see if you can find all the letters!
