Consett ASC’s Joe Edgar has long been a standout in and out of the pool—now he’s taken it to the international stage.
The 18-year-old backstroke specialist recently represented Team England at the Linkoping Water Games in Sweden, competing in the 200m backstroke and making it all the way to the finals.
“It was an incredible experience,” Joe said. “Swimming with athletes from around the world and feeling the team spirit every night as we cheered each other on—something I’ll never forget.”
Alongside his training, Joe is finishing his A-levels and a Diploma in Sporting Excellence. His dedication and leadership continue to inspire younger swimmers at Consett ASC, where he’s been a key figure since the age of four.
Head Coach Ian Frame said,
“Joe’s success is down to his grit and drive. We’re all so proud.”
Rising Stars at Consett
Joe isn’t the only one making waves. Izzy Swanston is blazing her own trail. A rising triathlete, Izzy’s swimming strength has helped her qualify for the 2026 European Championships—a remarkable feat at such a young age.
Others of note are, Ben Ashurst at just 11 years old, claimed gold in the gruelling 200m butterfly at the Northumberland & Durham County Championships. That’s eight lengths of the pool doing the toughest stroke in the sport!
Alex Davidson and Jack Trowsdale, both long-time Consett swimmers, now compete for their universities while staying connected to the club. They recently delivered strong performances at BUCS Championships, representing both their schools and Consett with pride.
At Consett ASC, their ethos is simple: learn, train, have fun. They support swimmers of all levels, from those chasing elite goals to anyone getting back into the pool. Whether you’re a young swimmer who’s passed Stage 7 or an adult looking to return, they’d love to welcome you. Email: [email protected]
