The Giddy Goose is in Consett

Business feature

The Giddy Goose Restaurant & Wine Bar opened in Newmarket Street in April this year.

Rhys Turner, aged 33, originally from Blackhill, has worked in hospitality for over eighteen years and learned his trade over this time. From glass collecting in Front Street in Consett to working on super yachts, moving on to managing and running hotels in Scotland. Here, he met Evanna and after starting a family they both decided to return to the northeast and settle in his home town.

The Giddy Goose Trailer was launched in 2022 and served food from outside The Horse and Groom for 8 months, then made a move to The Cricketers where it remained for over a year and a a half. Serving delicious wood-fired pizzas and street food which proved to be extremely popular with the locals Rhys and Evanna decided to expand their business and took the leap of faith to follow their dream and run their own restaurant and wine bar.. This expansion to a property took 18 months to complete as they were looking for and wanted to find the right location.

Both passionate about delivering the best food, drinks, and service Rhys and Evanna with 16 dedicated staff on the payroll now provide a welcoming, ambient, colourful, environment in their restaurant which has a real buzz about it.

It’s very popular venue for Consett folk – I know this as I’ve been there 6 times since they opened – and can accommodate tables of two to large groups.

The Giddy Goose also provides a takeaway and an order and  collection service, with delivery on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday

Their trailer is parked outside and will from June 4th be providing excellent food outside The Grey Bull in Stanhope from Wednesdays to Saturdays

The Giddy Goose has got off to a flying start, and long may it continue.

Give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. Look out for Sunday Lunches with a twist in the near future.

Address: 26 Newmarket Street, Consett, DH8 5LQ
