Two Consett community groups have once again demonstrated the power of local generosity, raising vital funds for Willow Burn Hospice and ensuring that compassionate care continues for those who need it most.
Last season, the Consett and District SAFC Supporters Association raised an impressive £5,000, taking their total donations over the years to more than £58,000. Speaking about the achievement, Michael Nixon from the Association summed up their commitment with the words: “One team, one heart – Consett, Sunderland, Willow Burn.” Their efforts highlight the unity of football supporters coming together not just for the game, but for their community.
Equally inspiring, the Derwent Valley Shooting Club has continued its remarkable tradition of support. This year, their annual fundraising event raised £4,154, bringing their total contribution to nearly £75,000 since their first competition in 1999, held in memory of Peggy Sharpe. Over the past 25 years, their dedication has created a legacy of kindness that has directly funded care for local families.
Rachel Quince, Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Willow Burn Hospice, said:
It is an absolute pleasure to work with these two fantastic community groups. I am always made to feel so welcome by members of each and their support for their local hospice is so special. Long-term support like this is vital to the financial sustainability of Willow Burn and the money raised will play a huge part in helping us deliver much-needed care for people living in Derwentside with a life-limiting illness.
