From Liverpool to Newcastle to Rome… John’s journey has been anything but ordinary.

He studied Fine Art at Newcastle – inspired by Bryan Ferry! worked as a graphic designer in Durham, and created comic books and artwork.

But parish life pulled him in a new direction. Leaving behind a career he loved, John trained for the priesthood in Rome and has now served at Our Blessed Lady and St Joseph, Leadgate, Brooms for over 10 years.

He recently collaborated with local artist Phil Bartle, holding a joint exhibition at The Heart, Consett and is now collaborating on a joint comic project which will be called The Bugle.

  1. As a visual artist myself who’s faith is very much reflected within my own work, I understand how the two sit beautifully, offering direction, fulfillment as a creative and a sense of self expression that comes from within. Fr John really is inspiring.
