Community groups and businesses to meet in Consett
A new community networking event bringing together charities, support organisations and local businesses will take place in Consett next month, with the aim of strengthening links across the North East and highlighting support available locally.
The event is being organised by Natasha Pollock, founder of Shadows Of Light CiC, a community interest company delivering animal assisted therapy and wellbeing support.
Event details confirmed
The networking event will be held on Tuesday 11 February, from 3pm to 5pm, at The Fountain. Food on the day will be provided by local business La Fountana.
The format will include a presentation outlining Pollock’s background in education and community work, the development of Shadows Of Light CiC, and the role local services play in supporting people from school age through to employment and adulthood.
Focus on collaboration and local opportunity
Attendees will include organisations operating across Consett, County Durham, Newcastle and the wider North East, alongside local businesses not traditionally linked to employment pathways.
The event will also include small group tours at Foundation For Good, following recent refurbishment work, with discussion around how community organisations can make use of available spaces. Local support hubs and services for neurodiverse individuals are also expected to be represented.
Charity and wider aims
Alongside promoting local collaboration, the event will reference Pollock’s fundraising efforts for Street Child, linked to her participation in the Tokyo Marathon.
If successful, the February meeting is intended to be the first in a series of regular networking events, aimed at raising Consett’s profile as a base for community-led support and partnership working.
Further details about the event programme are expected to be shared ahead of February, with organisers encouraging interested organisations and businesses to attend and connect with others working across the region.
