At Shotley Bridge Nursery, we are incredibly proud of the nurturing, high-quality environment we provide for every child. Our focus has always been to ensure children feel safe, happy, and supported to grow, learn and flourish.
As part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards, we recently welcomed Hopscotch Consulting, independent Early Years specialists, to carry out a Quality Improvement Visit at the nursery. The purpose of this visit was to gain an in-depth understanding of what daily life is like for children at Shotley Bridge Nursery School, and how our care, learning experiences and routines support their wellbeing and development.
This was not an inspection, but a thorough and professional review based on the Early Years Inspection Framework, designed to recognise strengths, celebrate effective practice and support our continued development.
We are delighted that the report describes Shotley Bridge Nursery School as a setting where children experience a highly nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment, and where they are happy, confident and motivated to learn.
The quality of relationships between children and practitioners was identified as a particular strength, noting that:
“warm, responsive relationships with familiar practitioners help children settle quickly, build secure attachments and develop a strong sense of belonging.”
Learning here at Shotley Bridge Nursery School was recognised as ambitious, well-planned and responsive to the children’s individual needs and interests. Children across all age groups were observed to be deeply engaged in their play and learning, supported by skilled and sensitive interactions from practitioners. The report noted that children confidently express their thoughts and feelings and show clear enjoyment in their play, learning and interactions. It also confirmed that children achieve well because experiences are purposeful, consistent and developmentally appropriate.
Children’s emotional wellbeing was highlighted as a clear priority throughout the nursery. Children are supported to recognise, express and regulate their feelings and benefit from calm routines, respectful care practices and highly effective key person relationships.
Safeguarding and children’s welfare were confirmed to be securely embedded across the setting. Strong partnerships with parents were also recognised as an important factor in children’s success and sense of security.
Why this matters
We choose to invite independent specialists into our nursery because we believe trust is built through openness and reflection. External quality reviews help us ensure that what we promise families is exactly what children experience every day, while supporting us to continually reflect and improve.
Thank you for trusting us with your children. We are incredibly proud of our nursery, our team and most importantly, your children. We remain fully committed to providing a warm, inclusive and high-quality environment where every child can thrive.
