Consett Nursery Donates TVs and Tonieboxes to Bring Comfort to Young Patients at North Durham Hospital

-

Children receiving care on Treetops Ward at University Hospital of North Durham are benefiting from a generous donation from Happy Smiles Nursery in Consett.

Nursery manager Danielle Casey, who regularly raises funds for hospitals and charities across the North East, has donated four televisions for use in the ward’s individual children’s rooms.

The donation will help provide entertainment and comfort for young patients during their hospital stay.

Danielle has also donated two Toniebox Audio Player sets with a selection of characters. The storytelling boxes allow children to listen to their favourite stories and songs, helping them relax and enjoy story time while in hospital.

The donation ties in perfectly with the spirit of World Book Day, encouraging children to enjoy books and stories.

Janine Collins, Ward Manager for Treetops Ward, said:

“Danielle and everyone at Happy Smiles Nursery have been incredibly generous. The TVs and Tonieboxes will make a real difference to the children staying with us, giving them something enjoyable and comforting during what can sometimes be a difficult time. We are also very grateful to the nursery parents and carers for their thoughtful donations for both the children and our staff.”

Families connected to the nursery also donated arts and crafts materials, books and games for the children on the ward, along with coffee, chocolates and biscuits for the hardworking staff team.

Rich Jones, Charity Manager for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Charity, added:

“We are hugely grateful to Danielle and the families at Happy Smiles Nursery for their kindness and generosity. Donations like this help create a more comfortable and positive environment for children receiving care in hospital, and it’s wonderful to see the community coming together to support our patients and staff.”

The team on Treetops Ward would like to thank Danielle, the nursery staff and the families who contributed for their kindness and support.
