Founded in 1932, Butsfield Young Farmers Club has grown from a small wooden hut beside the A68 into a thriving organisation with its own home at Elsdon Lodge — proudly the only YFC in County Durham to own its own building.

Open to young people aged 10–28, the club meets fortnightly and offers everything from stock judging and County Rally competitions (including three consecutive wins in 2021–23!) to ice skating, farm visits, mock auctions and much more.

Fundraising is at the heart of club life, supporting charities such as Great North Air Ambulance and, this year, Teesdale & Weardale Mountain Rescue – they are shown here presenting a cheque to two of the TWMR team – Steve and Karen.
Friendly, welcoming and open to all — you don’t have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer.
