Litter is more than just an eyesore. Discarded packaging, plastic bottles, cans and other waste can harm wildlife, pollute waterways and make communities feel neglected.
Lanchester Partnership held its annual village litter pick yesterday with a fantastic turnout, more than 60 volunteers, including 12 brilliant young helpers, collected over 50 bags of rubbish, eight of which will be recycled.
Most litter was found along the main roads and around the secondary school. Unfortunately, volunteers can’t safely collect further out along busy rural roads, where litter is often even more visible.
Community litter picking has been part of village life in Lanchester for over 20 years, and the village can be proud of that tradition.
