Benfieldside, Blackhill, Bridgehill and Shotley Bridge Community Partnership held their annual free family community fun day at Shotley Bridge Cricket Club on August bank Family Fun Day Shotley Bridge Cricket Club holiday Monday.

The event is all about bringing these communities together by providing a day of free entertainment for children and adults alike.

The entertainment included Bouncy Castles, Bungy Jumps, Slides, Rodeo Bull Riding and Live Music. There were demonstrations and exhibitions from Shotley Bridge Village Trust, Newcastle Falcons, Consett and Blackhill Scouts, Spartan Performance Gym, Consett Rugby Club and Consett Boxing Club.

With all of these local groups involved it really was a community fun day in every sense.

Consett YMCA even provided a free shuttle bus to take people to and from the event.

John O’Connor and Councillor Stephen Robinson were the main organisers of the event and it was great to see that all their hard work was rewarded by so many people supporting the event.

John said “The weather was kind to us and the community turned out in large numbers. We would like to thank the Big Lottery Fund for supporting the event financially. “

Let’s hope the 2015 event builds on this year’s success.
