Chopwell’s Velosolutions Pump Track has secured a major win: it will host the only UK qualifier for the 2025 UCI Pump Track World Championships on Sunday 15 June.
This prestigious international event puts Chopwell firmly on the global map, joining just 20 host locations worldwide, including countries such as Sweden, Nepal, and the USA.
The free-to-attend event is part of a full festival weekend running from Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 June, featuring a packed programme of activities including:
- Junior, masters, and scooter races
- Street food
- Live music
- Stalls and community activities
The successful bid to host the event was led by Iván Diaz Burlinson and the community group Ride Chopwell, with the backing of Gateshead Council. Their shared goal is to promote fitness, fun, and community spirit across Gateshead.
“Securing this event is a dream come true for our community,” said Iván.
Councillor Angela Douglas added:
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our vibrant community on the world stage.”
