Consett Academy is celebrating the strongest examination results in its history after students achieved record outcomes across English, mathematics, science and vocational subjects.
The results mark another significant improvement for the academy, with gains recorded across different groups of students and some of the school’s strongest individual performances to date.
English was among the standout subjects, with 78.8% of students achieving grade 4 or above and 61.5% securing grade 5 or higher. More than one in five students achieved the top grades of 7 to 9.
In mathematics, 73.5% of students achieved grade 4 or above.
Science also continued its upward trend, with 61.9% of students achieving grades 4 to 9, while the proportion achieving grades 5 to 9 increased by almost ten percentage points.
Vocational subjects recorded strong results too, with students achieving an average Level 2 Merit.
Based on historic national trends, the academy expects its results to place it significantly above national averages across several key measures.

“We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating the best results Consett Academy has ever achieved. This has been a fantastic year, with another substantial improvement across the Academy and success shared by students from every part of our school community.
“These outcomes reflect the ambition, resilience and determination of our students, alongside the expertise and unwavering commitment of our staff. This demonstrates the strength of our inclusive culture, the respect shown for every individual and our determination to ensure that every student can achieve their very best. Our Trust values of resilience, respect, collaboration, inclusion and ambition are visible throughout these results. They are not simply words; they are qualities demonstrated by our students and staff every day.

Alfie B – two grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s
Holly S – three grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s
Emma B – three grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s
Toby R – two grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s
Elliott M – three grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and one grade 4
Edward C – two grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and one grade 5
Eleonore T – three grade 9s, one grade 8, three grade 7s and two grade 6s
The results continue a period of improvement at Consett Academy and come as students prepare to move on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships and employment.
Families will also have an opportunity to visit the school at its Open Evening on Monday 14 September, from 4pm to 6pm, when prospective students and parents can meet staff, speak with pupils and tour the academy.
