When the six weeks holiday came around,
We clapped our hands with glee,
For now we played out every day,
And felt completely free –
To walk down to the river,
Turn left to the waterfall,
Swim and paddle in the Derwent,
We really had a ball.
Bringing dandelion and burdock,
Egg sandwiches and crisps,
Packed up tight in a Duffle bag,
With a packet of cherry lips.
We stayed all day, ‘till teatime,
Then faced the long walk back,
Climbed the hill, to Mutton Clog Bank,
Missing out the sandy path.
We trundled past the Company,
With it’s roar and noise and pipes.
Breathed in the red dust, when nearly home,
So happy with our life.
No adult supervision,
Just kids out there to play,
And we we will do it again tomorrow,
Because tomorrow’s, another day!
