The Consett Lions Club is celebrating a milestone as they mark their 62nd anniversary. Club President Ken Toward recently hosted a special charter night, welcoming District Governor Gill Swann to honour the club’s achievements and longstanding service to the community.
This past month, the Consett Lions were privileged to participate in the Remembrance Event at the Consett War Memorial, paying tribute to British and Commonwealth forces who have sacrificed their lives in wars worldwide.
In another community effort, Consett Lions Club partnered with St. John Ambulance to host a First Aid Awareness Session attended by 25 local residents. This informative session offered valuable life-saving skills, and the club hopes to hold more collaborative events in the future.
The club was also delighted to donate supplies to the Welcome Thursday Luncheon Club at the Kennedy Centre, part of St. Mary’s RC Church in Blackhill. President Ken Toward personally handed over the donation to dedicated volunteers who make the weekly luncheon a warm and supportive community gathering.
Excitingly, work on Consett Story Volume 2 is well underway. This follow-up to the original 1963 publication will continue the history of the Consett Steelworks. The club is seeking volunteers to assist with chapter coordination and writing; those interested can contact the Consett Lions for more details.
