This month sees a few very important dates, including a big 30th birthday milestone for Consett Magazine’s founder Barry Kirkham. We’d like to wish him a very happy birthday and not to worry about his favourite bands now being considered Classic Rock.

Sunday, 6 March 2016 is Mother’s Day and much like many festivities, Mothering Sunday has origins with religious purpose. Held on the fourth Sunday in Lent, three weeks prior to Easter Sunday, originally it was a day to give thanks to the Virgin Mary. Such celebrations meant people would visit their ‘mother’ church or cathedral in their area.

Today it is a day when children give presents, flowers, and home-made cards to their mothers. So, here’s to Mothers everywhere, thanks for everything!
