This Saturday, Consett will be seeing the beginning of the Christmas period with the turning on of the lights right in the centre of MiddleChristmas Street. Alongside the Dust Town Dogs turning on the decorations there are a whole host of other activities for the whole family to enjoy.

With the festivities kicking off bright and early, action on the stage starts at 10:30 with Nigel’s Chistmas Musical Selection and will be going on throughout the day. The main stage isn’t the only place where the fun will be going on throughout Saturday.

Special guest Santa Clause will be making an appearance throughout the day and will be taking time out of his busy festive schedule to speak with the local children and see what they are looking for this Christmas. You can go and see Santa in the Derwent Centre which will be transformed into his grotto for the day. There will be rides for the kids to enjoy alongside the local Fire and Rescue service who will be bringing their fire engine along to the event.

It’s not all just for the kids with a Christmas market taking place on the day which could prove great for picking up a few Christmas gifts for the family. The Check4Life health bus will also be at the event to help with health tips and tricks to keep you and your family healthy throughout the winter. This will be a great chance to learn a bit more about healthy eating as well.

The music stage is packed with artists and groups from the local area looking to bring a vibrant atmosphere to Middle Street on Saturday. Jazz In My Pants, Liam Carr, Act On Theatre Group and Consett Phoenix Youth are just a few of the acts which will be performing throughout the day to bring some great sounds to Consett throughout the day. Don’t forget to head to Middle Street this Saturday to experience the beginnings of Christmas in Consett.
