From preserving the North East’s heritage at Beamish Museum to restoring their own historic home at Hollinside Farm, John and Rosy Gall have dedicated their lives to protecting the stories, traditions, and landscapes of County Durham.

John, a farmer’s son from Lanchester, and Rosy, Beamish Museum’s very first employee, spent decades helping build one of Britain’s most celebrated museums.

Following retirement, they embarked on a new project — painstakingly restoring the historic Hall and creating the beautiful gardens and community spaces enjoyed today.

Their remarkable journey is a story of heritage, hard work, creativity, and a lifelong commitment to preserving the past for future generations. ️
