A journalist from Al Jazeera Online is seeking input from people in Consett for an upcoming feature on the legacy of Margaret Thatcher.
George Charles Darley, an experienced reporter, is researching how the Thatcher government’s closure of Consett’s steelworks in the 1980s continues to shape the town today. He hopes to interview someone whose parents or grandparents were directly affected by the closure and who sees the repercussions still playing out in modern Consett.
With the deadline fast approaching, George is keen to hear from locals as soon as possible. A contribution from someone in Consett would be invaluable in telling this important story.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in sharing their perspective, you can find George’s work on Al Jazeera Online: https://www.aljazeera.com/author/george-charles-darley.
