George Ledger – Consett in Focus
In the world of arboriculture, Kieran Jewitt stands out as a true tree whisperer. Unlike foresters who manage vast woodlands, Kieran specialises in the meticulous care of individual trees, shrubs, and vines, focusing on their health and aesthetics with a level of attention that could be described as VIP treatment for plants.

Kieran’s journey into the world of arboriculture began at Houghall College in Durham, where he laid the foundation for his future career. He then honed his skills through an apprenticeship with a local tree surgery firm, gradually perfecting his craft over the years. This wealth of experience eventually led him to establish his own company in Lanchester, though he still collaborates with other firms for larger projects or calls in reinforcements when faced with particularly challenging tasks.
During a recent encounter, Kieran was observed tackling a group of towering Scots Pines that had become precarious following a severe storm. One tree had already fallen, causing damage to fencing and decking but miraculously avoiding the nearby house. With another storm on the horizon and the remaining trees swaying ominously, Kieran found himself in a race against time to safely bring them down.
For those who might assume that felling a tree is a straightforward task, watching Kieran at work was a humbling experience. Perched 100 feet up in the air, he skilfully dismantled a swaying giant without causing so much as a scratch to the surrounding garden or house. His expertise clearly demonstrated that there’s far more to the job than simply wielding a chainsaw and shouting “Timber!”
Kieran’s work serves as a testament to the complexity and skill involved in arboriculture. His ability to safely manage such challenging situations, coupled with his deep understanding of tree care, truly sets him apart in his field. Whether he’s nurturing a young sapling or tackling a potentially dangerous situation like the Scots Pines, Kieran Jewitt continues to demonstrate why he’s considered one of Lanchester’s premier arborists.
