What Do Lions Do?
Lions Clubs are part of a global network of volunteers who focus on local needs while supporting international causes like disaster relief, sight conservation, childhood cancer research, and environmental projects. Whether it’s collecting glasses for vision programmes, helping communities recover from natural disasters, or supporting young people through schools and creative projects, Lions are there to serve.
Consett Lions is part of this proud tradition, working locally to make a real impact in the community. From raising funds for local charities to supporting families in need, the club offers a welcoming space for people who care about where they live.
Lions International – A Global Network of Volunteers
Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organisation, with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries. Founded in 1917 in Chicago by businessman Melvin Jones, Lions Clubs were established on the belief that community is at the heart of meaningful change. Since then, Lions have become known for tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges, including blindness prevention, humanitarian aid, and youth development.
In the UK, Lions Clubs have been serving communities since 1950, growing into a network of more than 600 clubs working across the country.

With the motto ‘We Serve’, Lions are hands-on in the community and love getting people involved.
