Born in May 1994 at Shotley Bridge Hospital, Andrew grew up in Greencroft and moved to Leadgate in 2018. Music has always played a central role in Andrew’s life. He studied piano with Joan Ellwood and organ with Bill Gray, and now keeps a collection of keyboard instruments at home—no TV in sight!
A keen choir singer, he joined Consett Citizens Choir in 2017 and became joint Musical Director in 2022 alongside Joyce Shaw. After Joyce’s passing in early 2024, Andrew took on the role fully, working with Assistant MD Andrew Howe to continue the legacy of founder William Westgarth MBE. The choir performs year-round, including a busy Christmas season. Join them on Saturday 28th June, 7 PM at St Patrick’s Church, Consett, for a special Gala Concert in aid of Willow Burn Hospice, dedicated to Joyce Shaw’s memory.
Professionally, Andrew works as an Associate Voicer at Harrison & Harrison Organ Builders in Durham, a world-renowned firm founded in 1861. His role involves voicing organ pipes—ensuring each one sings clearly and blends seamlessly in instruments that can contain thousands of pipes. It’s a highly skilled and deeply rewarding craft.
In 2021, Andrew found his spiritual home at St Ives’ Church, where he plays the organ and became Churchwarden in 2023. Whether it’s music, worship prep, or general upkeep, Andrew remains a devoted presence in parish life, often found doing odd jobs or quietly practising at the organ bench.
