Greencroft Bottling in Annfield Plain is one of the region’s largest employers, and Consett Magazine has been given exclusive access to meet the people who keep the business running. Today, we’re catching up with Shift Supervisor, Hayley Jackson:
“I’m fairly new to Greencroft Bottling, having started in June 2024 – previously I worked in a fish and chip shop for 23 years, so this is only my second job.”
“I was initially employed to work on the filler and when I was promoted to team leader, I made sure I also gained experience across labelling and packaging. I then saw the shift supervisor job advertised so applied, was interviewed and the job was mine. My experience working across different parts of the line certainly helped because I now understand the whole process and can support my team.
“This is so different from my previous job, although the principles of management are the same. On a daily basis, I’ll coordinate the team, manage the rota, ensure the handover between shifts is smooth, distribute job packs, make sure the lines are constantly running and generally resolve any issues. It’s such a busy and rewarding job, the shifts fly by. And I never knew there were so many options for wine bottle shape!
“I really enjoy working here, I’m passionate about doing the best job I can – I made a mistake when I first started but the senior team were supportive and helped me through. This is new to me so I’m learning every day. I’m from Durham so being able to work at such a great company locally is fantastic.
“So I’d say my main advice for anyone considering a career at Greencroft Bottling is that you don’t need specific experience as you’ll learn that on the job – just bring a great attitude and a willingness to learn. This is a great place to work and the people here are lovely. And I’m proof that promotion is possible.”
