A new equestrian shop in Consett is helping local riders save time, money and travel, after opening to meet a clear gap in the area.
Until recently, horse owners and riders in Consett often had to travel around 15 miles to browse new riding clothing, accessories and practical equestrian items in person. That changed in April, when Riding High opened next door to Hillside Saddlery, creating a convenient new destination for the local riding community.
Founded by Jo, a horse owner herself, Riding High has been designed to offer a friendly, practical and affordable shopping experience for riders of all ages. The shop began by stocking discontinued ranges, giving customers access to quality products at reduced prices, and has since expanded to include current-season items from well-known equestrian brands.
The range now includes riding boots and riding hats, with free fitting available to help customers find the right size and style safely and confidently. Riding High also stocks accessories, gifts and a small dog range, with new items being added as the business grows.
For Jo, affordability is a key part of the shop’s purpose. As many families know, riding kit can be expensive, particularly for children who quickly grow out of clothing, boots and equipment. To help with this, Riding High offers a growing range of preloved clothes and boots, giving families a more budget-friendly option while helping good-quality equestrian items find a second life.
Customers looking for something specific are also encouraged to ask, as Jo will do her best to source items that are not currently in stock.
The shop is now preparing to introduce a hire range of therapy products from trusted equestrian brands. These specialist items can be costly to buy outright and are often only needed for short-term use, such as during recovery or rehabilitation. By offering them for hire, Riding High hopes to give horse owners a more affordable and sustainable way to access the support their animals need without having to invest in equipment they may only use once or twice.
